Vision

The Department of Pharmacognosy aspires to achieve excellence and to play a prominent role in pharmaceutical education to graduate pharmacists who have sufficient knowledge and skills in pharmaceutical work as well as in the field of research and community services.

Mission

The department is committed to graduate and train highly qualified and competent pharmacists who are competitive in the local and global job market in the field of plants and natural products, conducting biological research, and supporting pharmaceutical services in the community.

Objectives

  • To provide a high-quality education to graduate knowledgeable and skilled pharmacists, and to provide an environment that helps students gain the support and experience that qualifies them to work in post-graduation fields.
  • The Department of Pharmacognosy works alongside the other departments in faculty of Pharmacy to graduate students capable of dealing with members of the medical team to provide the best level of medical service, as well as giving the opportunity to learn everything related to the effects of medicinal herbs, their biochemical properties, their toxicity risks, and their interactions with other drugs.
  • Expanding the use of medicines produced from natural sources.
  • Evaluating the effectiveness of traditional medicine.
  • Ensuring the best pharmaceutical services for patients in the community.
  • The department teaches a variety of courses across the different years of pharmacy education
