Faculty Overview
Study at the Faculty began in the academic year 2013/2014 by decision of the Supreme Council of Universities issued in 7/7/2013. The faculty operates according to the internal regulations of Faculty of Pharmacy – Assiut University, issued by Ministerial Decree No. 1440 dated 30/7/2006, issuing the new internal regulations for the faculty for the academic year 2006/2007. This regulation was applied to the new students starting in the 2006/2007 at the Faculty of Pharmacy, Assiut University. Subsequently, the regulation was updated, and the Pharm system was implemented, becoming the faculty’s primary regulation.
The faculty includes the following departments:
- Pharmaceutics and Industrial Pharmacy.
- Pharmacognosy and Medicinal Plants.
- Pharmaceutical Chemistry.
- Pharmacology and Toxicology.
- Pharmaceutical Analytical Chemistry.
- Microbiology and Immunology.
- Biochemistry.
Mission
- The mission of Faculty of Pharmacy at Sohag University is to graduate pharmacists capable of providing pharmaceutical and health services to the community by providing students with information and establishing correct pharmaceutical concepts in the faculty graduate.
- The mission includes conducting scientific research that contributes to the development of pharmaceutical and medical services within the community.
- The faculty’s mission also aims to encourage positive interaction with the surrounding environment, as well as fruitful health cooperation between the faculty graduates and the community, and to provide continuing pharmaceutical education.
Faculty Objectives
- To prepare graduates specializing in pharmaceutical sciences and qualified to compete regionally and globally in practicing and developing the pharmacy profession.
- To conduct practical and applied studies and research in the fields of pharmaceutical sciences related to integrated community development.
- Establishing specialized units to provide scientific and technical consultations and assistance to health authorities and entities concerned with the pharmaceutical industry.
- Raising the level of graduates according to the needs of the labour market in modern fields of pharmaceutical sciences through continuing pharmaceutical education programs.
- Partnering with specialized bodies to develop pharmaceutical education.
- To prepare graduates specializing in pharmaceutical sciences and qualified to compete regionally and globally in practicing and developing the pharmacy profession through continuing pharmaceutical education programs.
- To conduct practical and applied studies and research in the fields of pharmaceutical sciences related to labour market needs and integrated community development
Faculty’s Goals
1- Preparing a graduate specialized in pharmaceutical sciences who is qualified to compete regionally and globally in practicing and developing the profession of pharmacy through continuing pharmacy education programs.
2- Conducting practical and applied studies and research in the fields of pharmaceutical sciences related to the needs of the labor market and integrated development in society
3- Organizing and holding training courses, seminars and scientific conferences to deepen the concepts of pharmacy and raise the scientific level among specialized cadres
4- Concluding scientific agreements with corresponding bodies and institutions at the local and international levels to exchange scientific experiences.
5- Providing methods of publication and scientific research in various fields of specialization

Faculty Ethics
The faculty adopts a set of values, which it works to consolidate in the college community, which includes all employees from academic and administrative leaders, faculty members and their assistants, administrators, technicians, workers and others. These values are:

Values and Ethics of Pharmacy Profession
- The ethical standards for the pharmacy profession in general were derived from the ethical standards for the medical profession, and these standards define the pharmacist how to perform and conduct himself and his behavior on the personal and professional levels, since he maintains the same level of values and ethics in his private and professional life
- Any lack of moral values on the level of a person’s personal life, can lead to a loss of confidence in himself at the level of professional life, regardless of the level of his professional performance, experience or competence.
- We can classify the ethical values of the pharmacist on the basis of his relationship with his profession and the other into three groups as follows:
Pharmacist ethics in his relationship with patients.
- Respect the professional relationship with patients, and act honestly, truthfully and lovingly.
- Helping patients reach the maximum benefit from treatment.
- Providing pharmaceutical care to the patient at the highest level of efficiency.
- Respect the needs, values and status of the patient.
- Support the patient’s right to receive high-quality, ethical and professional health care.
- Support the patient’s right to choose what is related to pharmaceutical care.
- Presenting medication information to the patient in an understandable manner.
- Helping the patient to participate effectively in his or her pharmaceutical care program.
- Providing pharmaceutical care to the patient, taking into account his privacy, and doing everything necessary to protect the confidentiality of his information
- Ensure continuity of patient care under any circumstances.
- Protecting patient privacy rights.
- Maintaining patient confidence.
- Avoiding practices and behaviors that discriminations between patients
Pharmacist ethics in his relationship with colleagues
- The pharmacist must accept the responsibility of working with other pharmacists, as well as health care professionals, including physicians, nursing staff, and others, with the goal of raising the level of safety and effectiveness of pharmaceutical care.
- The pharmacist should consider the patient’s interest in the first position in the case of any behavior by another colleague in the health care that indicates poor professional ethics or incompetence. Then the pharmacist should discuss the matter directly with the person concerned, to resolve the issue and keep the risk away from the patient.
- Pharmacists should appreciate and respect the concept, value and importance of teamwork.
Develop the pharmacist himself on the scientific and professional levels
Every pharmacist in his position should seek to ensure that the practice environment contributes to the safety and effectiveness of pharmaceutical care.
The pharmacist must be committed, over the course of his life, to continue learning in a way that ensures that he maintains an appropriate level of knowledge and skill.
